I have been working on 2 posts for the past week. The first one about shoes and the second about clothing because the first morphed into the second and they deserve equal billing. But life happens and getting all the pictures and links and what not set up just right hasn’t quite gotten there yet. So it WILL happen but not just yet. Maybe tomorrow.
What fascinates me just recently is that since I started writing about being “imperfect” in this simplicity thing, I have suddenly read a number of posts from other bloggers on simplicity who are also saying, hey!, there are no hard and fast rules here. This is simply a guideline for living life so that our goals and our lives can be exposed from beneath the clutter of the typical American lifestyle.
You can take anything to extreme and then it’s not fun anymore. And sometimes actually simplicity in and of itself gets in its own way and impedes what else we need to do. THIS was posted over at the Art of Simple today on this very thought. You MUST follow this blog. Tsh Oxenreider is amazing.
This blog called What I shed today is a great down to earth daily note about what they got rid of, why and what they did with it. I can totally resonate with this one. And only one thing per day? Simple! Today, I dropped off two bags of clothes and one bag of shoes at the Thrifty Shopper. I love “reverse shopping!”
Tsh also has a blog about simple travel. She and her family are taking off on a world wide trip for the next year with 3 little kids in tow. She is my hero. HERE is what she is packing to wear! Looking at her wardrobe I think we are soul sisters 🙂 I am taking tips from this blog and applying them to an upcoming trip to Las Vegas for work. My goal: 4 days with only a back pack and my purse. Two summers ago I went for a week to Hilton Head with only one tote bag of clothes and my purse. I should totally be able to do this. And of course there will be a post about it…
Do you know that eBay is a magical place where you can sell your unwanted stuff and buy gently used things you DO need and want? It’s like a great exchange program. Be careful, it’s addictive. It’s been my favorite place to sell off the jewelry I never wear (which is most of it) and its the perfect place to find gently used clothes and shoes from quality brands for cheap, cheap, cheap! I buy clothes at the consignment store, so why not eBay? Just make sure you know your size in a particular brand to avoid buying something that doesn’t fit.
Tomorrow is the first day of school for my girls. It’s an orientation actually and only 2 hours. Today I received the clothes I ordered for “back to school” and I am pleased to say that after unpacking all of it line of my daughters said she wanted to wear her old uniform shirt from last year. She liked the uniforms. Good news is that what I bought was actually uniform clothing so we are both happy! There will be no princess sparkles clothing on my children. We are a solidly solid colored family. 😉 (well maybe not completely, but we are pretty close!)
So I guess my post about nothing was about a few things as it turns out. Just a little rambling with a head cold and a glass of brandy. I hope you enjoy and are enjoying the journey to simplified living! See you soon!!
Have a blessed week!
